Frequently asked questions
Q: What is the difference between OE (genuine), OEM and Aftermarket?
A: A lot of people believe OEM is the same as Aftermarket. This is incorrect. OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer and usually is an external company that makes parts to the vehicle manufacturers specifications. The difference between OE (original equipment) and OEM is the car manufacturers branding and a stamp of approval. Aftermarket on the other hand are often parts made very close to the original specifications but have not been approved by the vehicle's manufacturer.
Q: Will tuning or modifying my car void the Manufacturer's Warranty or my Insurance?
A: In most cases yes. Manufacturer warranties and Insurance companies generally base your cover around the vehicle being standard. Tuning or modifying your vehicle will alter the manufacturers specifications from the way it left the factory. We strongly recommend speaking with the Manufacturing Car Dealer or your Insurance provider before implementing any modifications.
Q: There are so many Tuners and performance parts suppliers in NZ. How do I know which one to choose?
A: Along with us, there are some other great companies in NZ that offer similar products. There are also places that aren't so good. We strongly recommend doing your research to ensure you make the right decision which best suits you.
Q: What parts do you use when maintaining vehicles?
A: We only use genuine and/or OEM parts approved by the vehicle's Manufacturer. In some cases, our clients will request aftermarket parts, in which case we will always discuss with them the pros and cons so our customers can make an informed decision.
Q: Is it possible to put my vehicle back to original after modification?
A: Depending on the modification, yes. Majority of the time your ECU can be remapped back to its original software. Even your exhaust system can be put back to factory if you've retained the original parts. The bonus about the exhaust systems we supply and fit is that they are designed and engineered to the highest standard, enabling them to bolt straight up to the factory system without the need for cutting or welding.
Q: Can I keep my old/factory parts?
A: Of course. We always recommend our clients to keep the old parts unless they have no need for them and want us to dispose of them. Retaining the original parts can also help the resale of the car should you choose to move it on.
Q: I want to modify my car but unsure what I want?
A: We will give you options and recommendations to suit your budget and help you make the right decision. Our suggestion is to really do your research and talk to people who have done the same or similar of what you're wanting to achieve. Take your time and don't rush.
Q: There's some issues with my car and I want to check them with my scanner before having it looked at.
A: Our advice is unless you know what you are doing or have some experience in this area, then please leave it to the professionals. If you erase any DTC codes, you can make diagnosing the issue more difficult and time consuming.
Q: I've increased the horsepower and torque. Should I get the TCU tuned?
A: If available for your car, it's always a good option to upgrade the transmissions software with a TCU tune. Doing this will increase line pressure to give you faster and firmer shifts and reduces the amount of slip. With faster shifts and less slip, the lifespan of the transmission is typically improved as well.
Q: Can you supply products throughout New Zealand?
A: Most definitely.
Q: I'm looking at buying a W204 Mercedes C63. What are things I should look out for?
A: The M156 engines is one the strongest engines produced by Mercedes. However, like all cars, they can have some issues. If looking at a pre-face lift C63, be sure to check if the head bolts have been upgraded to the newer version and that the camshafts and lifters are not starting to wear. Much like the pre-face lift, the face lift can develop a rattle on start up. This can last for a few seconds until oil pressure has built up. In most cases this is internal wear to the camshaft adjusters and will either need replacement or repair.
Q: My W205 C63S seems to lack power?
A: A common issue that can occur is the failure of the factory exhaust valve motors. This can restrict power and, in some cases, not bring on the engine light.
Q: My audio has stopped working on my Audi and I'm told I need a new 5F unit upwards for $12k.
A: In some cases, the 5F units can be repaired. Though we don't do these repairs in house, we can point you in the right direction of a specialist in our vast network.
